Sherrills Ford is an unincorporated community in the southeast corner of Catawba County, on the western shore of Lake Norman. It is part of the Lake Norman of Catawba census-designated place, which grew from 7,411 people in 2010 to 8,658 in 2020, and it takes its name from the spot where Adam Sherrill and others forded the Catawba River around 1747.
Mountain Creek Park's 606 acres of biking, hiking and trail-running paths sit within the community, and the Neill–Turner–Lester and Miles Alexander Sherrill houses are listed on the National Register. Neighboring Terrell, Monbo and Long Island are part of the same census area along the lake.
NC-150 crosses the southern part of the community, reaching Mooresville 11 miles to the east and Lincolnton 17 miles to the west. The surrounding census area added more than 1,200 people between 2010 and 2020; in 2000, Sherrills Ford itself counted 941 residents before it was folded into the larger Lake Norman of Catawba area.
Homes range from waterfront and near-water properties to newer neighborhoods around Terrell, and lake-area houses take more sun, wind and moisture than homes inland.
